hi joe, i am trying to trace my grandfather john blanch . i know from his royal irish regiment papers 1891-1902 that he was born in the parish of paulstown in or near castlecomer, circa 1872and joined the british army in 1891. he lists his next of kin as his mother rose tobin and his brother william blanch his mothers address is listed as baurnafea/castlewarren. i was wondering if my grandfather may have gone to school in baurnafea in his childhood/youth.if so your records may possibly show this so i am willing to spend $10 to find out. the problem is that your web site does not show how to clearly make a requisition to do a school record search so basically i want to know if the name john blanch or maybe blanchfield shows up with his mother as rose tobin in your baurnafea school records.so if you could email me with details i would be most grateful..........regards.........peter.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for this wonderful site regarding Paulstown. As I live in Australia, information regarding Paulstown can be difficult to come by. My ancestors also lived in the Paulstown area, from the late 1600s to c1900. My great great grandfather was William Flood (1817-1885) who lived in Paulstown Castle until his death. The family eventually sold the castle to the Healy family in 1892. I also had relatives living at Viewmount, Floodhall & Farmley (formerly Burn(t)church) all near Paulstown. William's 2 sons (William and Ernest) both emigrated to Australia in 1856 and 1862 respectively.

Keep up the great work,

Regards,
